Wonder Woman Origins Teased in Trailer for ‘Professor Marston & The Wonder Women’ (Video)

The origins of Wonder Woman are revealed in the first trailer for Annapurna’s “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women,” an upcoming period drama starring Luke Evans, Rebeeca Hall and Bella Heathcote.
The true story details the life of William Moulton Marston (Evans), who created Wonder Woman in 1941, and his wife and fellow inventor Elizabeth (Hall). Heathcote stars as Olive Byrne, a former student of Marston’s, with whom the married couple had a polyamorous relationship. The log line adds that Marston was the inventor of the lie detector and that the inspiration behind Wonder Woman was his wife and Byrne.
“A person is most happy when they are submissive to a loving authority,” Marston tells a classroom of students, in which Byrne is seated.

“Do you think it’s possible to love two people at the same time?” Hall’s character asks Marston.
As the trailer recounts, Marston’s comics were at first criticized by censors for Wonder Woman’s “sexual perversity.”
“What would happen if Wonder Woman’s secret identity would be revealed?” Marston is asked.
“Everything would be lost,” he responds.
