Trump Finally Thanks Ousted White House Strategist Steve Bannon
President Trump on Saturday broke his silence on the abrupt departure of White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, belatedly thanking his former campaign chairman.
“I want to thank Steve Bannon for his service,” the president tweeted on Saturday morning, one full day after Bannon announced he would leave the White House and return to his role overseeing the far-right Breitbart News operation.
Trump also could not resist another dig at the Democrat whom he upset in last fall’s election, noting of Bannon: “He came to the campaign during my run against Crooked Hillary Clinton – it was great!”

Bannon’s departure came nearly a year to the day after he signed on as chairman to Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. His exit follows weeks of speculation about his status within an embattled administration that has seen a remarkable amount of turnover in its first seven months.
“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best,” the White House said in a statement on Friday.
After departing from his role at the White House, Bannon announced on Friday he’d return to Breitbart News and will go to “war for Trump against his opponents.”
