Ratings: CBS’ March Madness Enacts Revenge on ABC’s ‘TGIT’

Last week, ABC’s “TGIT” lineup held off CBS’ NCAA Tournament coverage. Last night, not so much.

Michigan vs. Oregon and Purdue vs. Kansas catapulted CBS over ABC in both the key 18-49 demographic and among total viewers. The surge is to be expected as March Madness heats up and approaches the Elite 8 round.

CBS was first in ratings with a 2.0 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted demographic and in total viewers with an average of 6.6 million, according to preliminary numbers. Due to the nature of live sports, fast national numbers for CBS are subject to adjustment.

ABC was second in ratings with a 1.3/5 and in viewers with 5.6 million. “Grey’s Anatomy” at 8 p.m. earned a 1.9/7 and 7.8 million viewers. At 9, “Scandal” landed a 1.3/5 and 5.5 million viewers. “The Catch” at 10 had a 0.7/3 and 3.5 million viewers.

NBC and Fox tied for third in ratings, both with a 0.8/3. NBC was third in total viewers with 4 million, Fox was fourth with 2.9 million.

For NBC, “Superstore” at 8 got a 1.1/5 and 4.2 million viewers. Following reruns, “The Blacklist: Redemption” at 10 settled for a 0.7/3 and 4 million viewers.

For Fox, “MasterChef Junior” at 8 received a 1.1/4 and 3.7 million viewers. At 9, “Kicking & Screaming” managed a 0.6/2 and 2 million viewers.

Telemundo was fifth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.47 million.

Univision was sixth in ratings with a 0.5/2 and in viewers with 1.46 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in viewers with 901,000, airing all repeats.
