MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts slammed President Trump’s response to a horrifying, suspected chemical attack on a northern Syrian town that killed at least 80 people on Tuesday, marking one of the deadliest attacks in Syria’s civil war.
Trump condemned the attack, while shifting blame to his predecessor, President Obama, who famously said he would take action if the country used chemical weapons back in 2012 but failed to deliver on the threat.
“What the President of the Unites States gets paid to do is lead us together as a country in times of crisis — and him carping at the past president’s failures is unbecoming,” Joe Scarborough said on Wednesday’s show.
Scarborough continued: “You’re criticizing Barack Obama for what he did not do in 2012? What are you doing to do five years later? Because now you’re the President of the United States.”
Scarborough then pointed to tweets Trump sent before he was in office, which seem to contradict his current stance.
“He can’t criticize Barack Obama on one hand for turning a blind eye to Assad’s chemical weapons in 2012 and then allow it to happen in 2017, and do absolutely nothing while this holocaust unfurls before our eyes,” Scarborough said.
Mark Halperin chimed in, “The onus is on him now.”
