“Billions” star Malin Akerman is in negotiations to play the villain in New Line’s “Rampage,” starring Dwayne Johnson, TheWrap has learned.
The film is based on the 1980s video game and will feature three monsters who are wreaking havoc across North America – and Johnson is the only hope of stopping them.
In addition to Johnson and Akerman, the cast also features “Moonlight” star and Academy Award nominee Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill. Brad Peyton is directing.
The film reunites Johnson, New Line, producer Beau Flynn, and director Brad Peyton, who also worked together on “San Andreas” and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.”
Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo., John Rickard of Wrigley Pictures, Hiram Garcia of Johnson’s 7 Bucks Entertainment and Peyton and his ASAP Entertainment are producing the movie, with Wendy Jacobson of FlynnPictureCo. co-producing. Marcus Viscidi, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Jeff Fierson are executive producers.
Ryan Engle wrote the original screenplay. Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal revised it, with Adam Sztykiel handling current revisions.
Johnson is coming off of his starring voice role in Disney’s “Moana,” which was nominated for two Academy Awards. He will next feature in “The Fate of the Furious,” set to hit theaters on April 14.
“Rampage” is slated for an April 20, 2018 release.
