Another “SNL” is in the books, and this week’s host, “Girls Trip” star Tiffany Haddish, was exactly as delightful as you probably would have hoped. So here’s your roundup of all her sketches (and other appearances) on Saturday night.
She kicked it off, as usual, with the monologue, in which she demanded to know where her “Girls Trip” money is, and also described the appreciation she and the other ladies ladies at her beauty shop have for Donald Trump’s wigs.
From there it was full speed ahead, with Haddish taking on the role of a fighting game character named Boo Boo Jeffries in a “Mortal Kombat” knockoff.
Haddish then popped up in a digital short showing off the screen tests for actors and other celebrities who auditioned for Disney’s live-action version of “The Lion King” — Haddish played Cardi B auditioning alongside new “SNL” player Chris Redd as Offset from Migos.
Haddish and Leslie Jones appeared in a sketch as the last two Black Unicorns — mysterious creatures who have the ability to tell a person their future. But be careful what you wish for.
In a bit about marine biologists (Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant) teaching a dolphin to speak through, um, questionable means, Haddish appeared as a fellow scientist who most definitely did not approve of what they were doing.
As the show neared its end, Haddish popped up as a guest on a self-proclaimed woke (but maybe actually not so woke) talk show hosted by Leslie Jones — Haddish played a former Instagram butt model who now reviews movies.
Haddish and McKinnon brought the show home with the latest edition of “Whiskers R We,” in which they play with kittens and make jokes to try to get viewers to adopt them.
Though not a sketch, Haddish also showed up briefly during Weekend Update, interrupting the segment to saunter through the set in the Alexander McQueen dress she wore during the monologue — she had made a joke about how she liked that dress so much she would probably show up later in the show wearing it and she lived up to her promise. Her part came about a minute into the segment below.
Though Haddish did not appear in this week’s cold open (hosts usually don’t), you probably won’t want to miss it — it saw Mikey Day done up as a disconcerting spitting image of Roy Moore and McKinnon’s Jeff Sessions consulting with a possum about how to deal with Moore’s sex scandal. You can check that out here.
