“Independence Day” producer Dean Devlin’s directorial debut, “Geostorm,” promises a whole lot of CG-heavy destruction porn in the first trailer released Wednesday: explosions, monster waves, collapsing buildings and bridges and even a giant airplane falling from a very darkened sky.
The movie, due from Warner Bros. and Skydance on October 20, stars Gerard Butler (“Olympus Has Fallen”), Jim Sturgess (“Cloud Atlas”), Abbie Cornish (“Limitless”), Alexandra Maria Lara (“Rush”), Daniel Wu (“The Man with the Iron Fists”), with Ed Harris (“Apollo 13”) and Andy Garcia (“The Godfather: Part III”).
After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong–the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything…and everyone along with it.
