Cynthia Nixon Addresses Rumors That She’ll Run for Governor (Video)
Cynthia Nixon — who is best known for her role as Miranda on HBO’s “Sex and the City” — is addressing “those rumors” that she’ll run for governor of New York City.
“You know, I think there are a lot of people who would like me to run … for a variety of reasons,” the actress said while appearing on the “Today” show Tuesday morning. “But I think the No. 1 is education.”
However, Nixon told host Al Roker that she “can not” make an announcement about it today, and can’t promise she’ll do it on their show when she is ready.

“We’ve got a real problem on our hands in New York State. We are the 49th in terms of equitable funding,” she told Roker, with co-hosts Dylan Dreyer and John Cena. “That means there’s only one state that’s worse than us and that’s Illinois. And Governor Cuomo likes to say we spend more per pupil than any other state, and that is actually true, but the only reason that is true is because we spend so much on the kids in our wealthiest districts and so that evens out.”

“Between our hundred richest schools and our hundred poorest schools, there’s a ten-thousand-dollar gap on what we spend per pupil,” Nixon went on to say. “That gap now between our richest schools and our poorest schools is wider under Gov. Cuomo than it ever has been before, and that’s got to stop.” Andrew Cuomo, the current governor of New York, is in his third term, and is up for reelection next year.
Nixon has three children — Samantha, 20, Charles Ezekiel, 14, and Max Ellington, 6 — who have gone through public school or are currently in public school, and said that “parents all across New York State talk to me about this.”
