CNN Cracks Top 5 Cable Networks During Busy News Week
A busy news week resulted in all three major cable news networks finishing among the five most-watched channels among all of basic cable last week, with Fox News extending its win streak to 33 consecutive weeks among total day viewers.
Fox News averaged 1.3 million total day viewers from Aug. 14-20 to continue its streak, while Nickelodeon averaged 1.1 million to finish second. MSNBC finished third, averaging a little over one million viewers and CNN came in fourth, averaging 908,000 total day viewers.
Fox News also won the primetime crown, topping all of basic cable in viewership from 8-11 p.m. for the 13th week in a row. MSNBC averaged 1.98 million primetime viewers to finish second, while USA, HGTV and TBS round out the top five. CNN averaged 1.3 million primetime viewers to finish sixth in the category.

The week was packed with news, including President Trump’s now-infamous press conference that was covered by the news networks on Tuesday afternoon. The tragic events of Charlottesville, Virginia, resulted in a handful of must-see TV moments for political watchdogs throughout the week.
FNC programs made up 11 of the top 30 basic cable programs among total viewers, including various episodes of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “The Five” and “Hannity.”
Meanwhile, Fox News’ sister, Fox Business Network, continued a win streak of its own. FBN has now topped CNBC during business hour for the 11th straight week.
